Gerald Clay Brown

Gerald was born May 27, 1939 in Bourbon County to Willie and Margaret Chandler Brown.  He married Retha Dee Williamson Brown April 18, 1966 and they started a family of four children.  Timothy Gerald, Suzanne Cynthia, Samantha Clay and Kevin Lane.

Gerald was a tobacco and cattle farmer until the age of 80.  He worked every day on the farm come sun, rain or snow.  It was what came naturally to him as he was the son of generations of farmers.  He loved his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He cherished his parents, siblings, nieces and nephews and their extended families. He was of Baptist faith and attended the Donaldson Road Baptist church.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Margaret Chandler Brown, a son Timothy Gerald Brown, two brothers William (Red) Brown, Jr and Larry Brown, a sister Carolyn Sue Brown Butcher and a nephew Timothy Wayne Butcher.

Gerald is survived by his wife Retha (Dee) Brown, his daughters Suzanne (Ron) Dalton, Samantha Simon, Kevin (Angie) Brown.  Ten grandchildren, Chad (Cindy) Gray, Rachel (Taylor) Gray, Jared (Maci) Daniels, Brittany (Jason) Swartz, Elijah Brown, Zachary (Brittany) Gray, Tanner (Juana) Conley, Josie Brown, Jillian (Briar) Gray and Kayley Dalton. Fifteen great grandchildren, Shelby, Gracie, McKenna, Maverick, Ellie, Amelia, Journee, Emmie, Charlie, Berkley, Willow, Lily, Henry, Isa and Jameson. One great- great grandchild, Stella.  Four brothers, Satch Brown, David Brown, Donnie Brown, Greg Brown and their extended families. Three sisters, Ann West, Janice Hatton and Judy Hart and their extended families. Several nieces and nephews (Brown) and their extended families. One brother-in-law, Curtis Ross and his children Bill Ross, Kirk Ross, Lisa Willoughby and their extended families. Three nephews in Florida Travis Williamson, Chris Williamson and Charlie Ross. A niece in Florida Loretta Provencher.

Pallbearers are Chad Gray, Jared Daniels, Elijah Brown, Zachary Gray, Tanner Conley, Josie Brown, Birddog Willoughby and Jason Brown.

Honorary Pallbearers are Satch Brown, David Brown, Donnie Brown, Greg Brown, Buck Prewitt and Ron Dalton.

Funeral services will be held 2pm Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel in Clay City. Friends may visit Tuesday from 12 PM till time of services. Burial will follow in the Machpelah Cemetery in Mt. Sterling. Grayson Funeral Home is in charge of services.
